300 people die in fire in Kemerovo, Ukrainian pranker says

The Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation claimed that Ukrainian pranker Yevhen Volnov spread the information about 300 fatalities during the fire in Kemerovo, Russia. The respective statement by the Committee appeared on Tuesday afternoon.

'A citizen of a foreign country spread false information about the number of the fire victims in order to destabilize the situation in the region', the statement says. The authority underlined that the man, identified as famous pranker Yevhen Volnov, called to hospitals and governmental agencies. The Investigation Committee added that his action will be considered during the investigation of the tragedy.

Later that day, Volnov said he had assumed there were 300 fatalities, considering the number of seats in the cinema. 'I am the only one who speaks the truth and is not afraid of doing so', he said in his commentary for RBC Ukraine news agency.
