Today’s statement of Czech president Milos Zeman about Crimea is cynical and absolutely unacceptable. Yevhen Perebyinis, Ukrainian ambassador in the Czech Republic said that in the interview with local web outlet Novinky.cz.

According to him, Ukraine was concerned over Zeman’s words. ‘We’re worried about the statement of Czech president Zeman, who in fact offered Ukraine to accept the annexation of Crimea by Russia for financial compensation,’ Perebyinis said. ‘This offer seems to us a little cynical, since we, according to him, should come to terms with losing our territory and accept the fact that prosecutions of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars  in Crimea would continue. It is a shame that this statement comes from president of the Czech Republic, which, quite regrettably, also faced occupations and repressions in its history, ’ the diplomat said.

‘I’d like to stress, above all, that Crimea is Ukraine’s territory, which is recognized by the entire civilized world – despite the fact that someone is trying to persuade the rest of the world it is not so. Ukraine does not and will never trade its territory, citizens or freedom,’ he said.

Perebyinis expressed hope Zeman’s ideas will not spread across the Czech society.

‘Ukraine will continue to fight for Crimea, hoping for further support from the EU and our Czech friends,’ he concluded.
