A meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with his American counterpart Donald Trump in the White House is being prepared, however, specific dates for the visit have not yet been determined. Volodymyr Yelchenko, the ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, spoke about this to a TSN news agency.
The diplomat noted that the Ukrainian side will try to make this meeting productive, and the trip of the Ukrainian president itself will be saturated not only with negotiations with Trump.
"We don’t talk about the dates. We have a vision that this visit should not just be for a tick or some hour-long meeting at the White House. This visit should at least lead to the signing of some important documents. A number of them are being prepared. And secondly, it should include a visit not only to Washington, but also to some other cities and regions of the US First of all, I know that we have a lot of interest in visiting California, and this year we have plans for plus opening of the new Consulate General of Ukraine in Texas, in the city of Houston. And we all it’s necessary to put it together, and, perhaps, we will be able to organize a visit on just such three components," Yelchenko said.
The new head of the diplomatic mission confirmed the words of his predecessor that Zelensky and Trump had developed more than friendly relations.
“He (Trump) has a very high opinion of President Zelensky. He has already spoken to him several times and met once in New York. It feels like there is some chemistry between them. This is inspiring. Because of personal relationships between the chapters, a lot of states depend," Yelchenko emphasized.
The ambassador also notes that effective reciprocity should be established in relations between the two states since Ukraine can be useful to the States, and not just the other way around.
“The main thing for us is to show the opposite reaction. To show that we are not only grateful to the United States but to show that we are also ready to help when they need it. Yes, our capabilities are not comparable, but there are many things where a lot also depends on us issues important to the US," the head of the diplomatic agency explained.
As we reported before, the total sum of financial assistance that Ukraine is expected to receive from the United States in 2020 amounts to 698 million dollars. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Volodymyr Yelchenko
