The authorities continue to crack down on independent journalists and TV channels at the hands of a puppet body, the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting. Today, on November 4, an unscheduled inspection of UkrLive TV channel is appointed.
This illegal decision is the first step in the process of closing the TV channel, which is not under the control of the authorities. This time, the authorities decided not to act with the help of illegal decisions of the National Security and Defense Council, but to go the other way - to close for alleged violations in the broadcast.
We affirm that the National TV Council has forgotten about laws and norms of law and has in fact introduced a ban on opposition activities in Ukraine, criticism of the government, coverage of the truth about corruption, and other topics of interest to Ukrainian citizens. After all, the reason for the unscheduled inspection is contrived and is connected with the criticism of the government and its decisions by the opposition politician. Thus, the authorities are giving a signal to all media on who to show and who should not be shown. We consider such actions a dictatorship, pressure on freedom of speech and the collapse of democratic processes in Ukraine.
However, the authorities will not be able to shut journalists' mouths.
Earlier, it was reported that MP Nestor Shufrych is the owner of UkrLive TV channel. Broadcasting on the TV channel was organized by a team of journalists from the illegally closed Pershiy Nezalezhniy (First Independent).
As it was reported, Pershiy Nezalezhniy was created by journalists of the illegally closed 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZiK TV channels. It aired for 1 hour, after which the broadcast was disconnected by an illegal, cynical letter from the SBU Deputy Chairman. However, it continued its broadcast on YouTube, where it became popular among the viewers, which became apparent when 112 Ukraine TV channel received Gold Creator Award (over 1 million subscribers) from YouTube, and other channels broadcasting Pershiy Nezalezhniy received Silver Creator Award (over 100 thousand subscribers).
In turn, 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK TV channels were illegally closed by President Zelensky out of court by an illegal decision of the National Security and Defense Council.
On August 20, sanctions were imposed on the editor-in-chief of the online outlet Strana.ua, Igor Guzhva, the publishing companies of Strana.ua, blogger and journalist Anatoliy Shariy, and his wife Olga, as a result of which Strana.ua and Shariy.net were blocked.
It should be noted that the persecution of journalists has already become the "brand action" of government officials. In addition to journalists from the opposition media, journalists from UA: Pershiy and journalists from Ukraine 24 TV channel complained about pressure from the President's Office.
The situation with violations of freedom of speech in Ukraine has been criticized by all leading international organizations dealing with freedom of speech and human rights. In recent months alone, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, PACE Rapporteur on Media Freedom and Protection of Journalists, President of Freedom House, and others have expressed their positions. Meanwhile, the authorities continue to put pressure on the media, and no common sense or law stops them.
