Chairman of the Political Council of “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk commented on the statement of Volodymyr Zelensky concerning the release of POWs, which he said during his inauguration on May 20, on the air of the TV Channel 112.Ukraine.
“We were not just speaking about it, we were doing it. Yes, we liberated people, our party and I deal with this issue. We conducted exchanges together with the authorities indeed, but they were exchanges. Yes, we wanted peace, and not just wanted, but we suggested a peace plan that was developed and agreed upon as a negotiating position in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Moscow. We insisted on the fact that Kyiv would agree to negotiations for the implementation of those provisions of the Minsk agreement, foreseen by these agreements, which are approved by the decisions of the UN Security Council and which, I emphasize, can be realized indeed, because the preliminary agreement to discuss this particular agenda, this peace plan, which I proposed, we received from Donetsk, Luhansk, and Moscow, and it was made publicly, and you know it well " the politician said.
"And the very fact, which today the new government and Mr. Zelensky claimed in his inauguration speech, of course, is optimistic. However, this optimism has not lasted for long, because you correctly stated that he said in his inauguration speech he was ready to lose his ratings, even his position for the sake of peace, but the hostilities should be stopped and the territories should be returned. And after a few hours, I suppose it is an indicator, he said, that Ukraine was grateful for the U.S. sanctions against Russia and he asked the USA to strengthened the sanctions in a conversation with the U.S. delegation, headed by the Energy Minister Perry. How should one understand that? We should negotiate including with Russia, and we have to negotiate concerning peace with the Donetsk and Luhansk, and in order to do so should the sanctions against Russia be strengthened?" Medvedchuk added.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it is impossible to lose something, which is rightfully ours. Crimea and Donbas is the territory of Ukraine, as Zelensky said during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada.
