Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky transferred his 25% stake in the offshore company to his close friend, co-founder of Kvartal 95, Serhiy Shefir, who is now the president's chief adviser. This is stated in the Pandora Papers investigation, which was published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
As Slidstvo.info reports with reference to the document, Shefir through an offshore company owns two apartments at once in the capital of Great Britain with a total value of more than 5 million US dollars.
Another owner of London real estate is also a former business partner of President Zelensky, screenwriter and director of Kvartal 95 films and TV series Andriy Yakovlev.
According to the UK Land Registry, the firm, which, along with other offshore companies, belongs to Yakovlev, owns an apartment in central London, a 10-minute walk from Parliament.
According to documents analyzed by journalists, the cost of this apartment was more than $ 2 million.
"During the election campaign, Zelenskiy transferred his 25% stake in an offshore company to his close friend, who is now the president's chief adviser," the statement said.
At the same time, the childhood friend of the president, Ivan Bakanov, owned Davegra Limited. It was this company that was the nominal owner of the "heart" of the offshore business of Zelensky and his partners - Maltex Multicapital Corp. And it was Davegra which kept secret documents - a declaration of trust, that is, a list of the real beneficiaries of Maltex and the size of their shares in the business.
However, in 2019 Bakanov handed over this firm to Yakovlev. It is he who owns Candlewood Investments Limited registered in the British Virgin Islands.
This investigation has already been commented on by Borys Shefir, the brother of the adviser to the President of Ukraine.
"Bakanov was our financial director, he arranged the financial schemes of our company. And, frankly, I am not ready to answer now. Perhaps I am the owner," he said.
Zelensky, in turn, declined not to comment on the investigation.
