Office of the President of Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky during his speech at the Munich Security Conference announced his intention to hold local elections throughout Ukraine, including parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in October 2020.

"Our desire for today is to hold local elections throughout Ukraine, including parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in October 2020," Zelensky said.

The president also added that he would like to hold local elections in the annexed Crimea. But to do this without elementary security and political conditions, while violating the Constitution of Ukraine and international standards for democratic elections is not possible.

Earlier Zelensky announced his readiness for dialogue with the population that lives in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, but not with the so-called ‘power’ in occupied territory of Donetsk and Luhansk region. He made the corresponding statement during his speech at the Munich Security Conference, which was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine

The Ukrainian leader noted that “complete silence” in the Donbas has not yet been ensured.

"In almost two months, more than 400 attacks on Ukrainian positions were recorded, as a result of which Ukrainian troops continue to die," - Zelensky said.

The President emphasized that effective mechanisms are needed, according to which a ceasefire will occur "not in words, but in real life."
