Zelensky signs law on reformation of prosecution bodies

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law No. 113-IX, which issues reformation of the prosecution bodies. Information about the bill is set on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Prosecutor General’s Office will become the Office of the Prosecutor General, and the military prosecution will be dismissed.

Prosecutor General is eligible to regulate the procedure of prosecutors' attestation. In case an employee does not go through a specific examination or does not want to – he is supposed to be fired.

The law prescribes financial assistance to the prosecutor's offices not only from the state budget but from the other sources, in addition to this, in the framework of international assistance projects.

The total number of prosecution bodies' employees is to decrease from 15 to 10 thousand people.

The document stipulates the obligation of the prosecutors of regional prosecutor's offices and of the Office of the Prosecutor General to have a law degree and the state language proficiency. Candidates for the post of the prosecutor will be required to file a declaration of integrity and family ties.

The Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors ceases to operate.

The Prosecutor General will be able to dismiss prosecutors from the administrative positions without the recommendation of the Council of Prosecutors.

The regulation on the possibility of prosecutor attesting in the event of disciplinary proceedings against him is abolished.

The National Prosecution Academy of Ukraine will become a Training Center. The Prosecutor General will have the right to appoint and dismiss the head of the Training Center and his deputies.

As we reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved the law on September 19 by 259 votes.
