Zelensky signs law on new military ranks in Ukrainian Army

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law that imposes the new military ranks in the Ukrainian Army. The changes concern junior ranks in the Ground Forces and the Navy.

Currently, the hierarchy in the Ukrainian army is as follows:

Private, Private First Class, Junior Sergeant, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer.

The order will change to the following hierarchy:

Recruit, Private, Private First Class, Junior Sergeant, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, First Sergeant, Master Sergeant, Staff Master Sergeant, Chief Master Sergeant.

Some Navy ranks change, too. There will be no midshipmen anymore. Instead, the ranks of Staff Sergeant, Master Sergeant, Staff Master Sergeant and Chief Master Sergeant are introduced.
