President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that continues the existing special status of Donbas for a year until December 31, 2020. The data are published in a bill card number 2569 on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
The document will be eligible for one year, until December 31, 2020. The current law was expiring this month. It was valid from 2014 until 2017, and the Parliament extended the deadline twice.
The norms of the law on the special status of Donbas shall come into effect only when the aggressor state withdraws all illegal armed groups, militants, mercenaries and military equipment from the territory of Ukraine.
As we reported earlier, on December 9 during the Normandy Four meeting the parties discussed the necessity of the introduction of special status on the territories of separate regions of Donbas. At the same time, Putin noted that such status should be introduced on a permanent basis.
It should be noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of Russia Vladimir Putin discussed the ceasefire in the Donbas, the return of all Ukrainian political prisoners, control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and holding local elections.
