President Volodymyr Zelensky has promised Ukrainians a new law on the special status of the Donbas. This is stated in a video message, broadcasted on Ukrainian TV channels on Thursday evening.

"There will be a new law (on the special status of the Donbas - ed.). Will we develop and adopt it quickly? No. We will write it together in cooperation and public discussion with all Ukrainian society without crossing any "red line". So there is no capitulation. No surrender of the national interests of Ukraine. No fixed agreements and global steps without the consent of the people of Ukraine," the President emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that law on the special status of Donbas will not be signed at the meeting in the Normandy format. The current law on the special status of Donbas is in effect until December 31, 2019.

As we reported earlier, on October 1, Ukraine announced the approval of the text of the "Steinmeier formula" in response to a letter from the OSCE Special Representative to the Tripartite Contact Group, Martin Sajdik.

The signing of the "Steinmeier formula" by Ukrainian side is a condition for participating in the Normandy format summit.
