President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the introduction of the weekend lockdown was the right step as the number of contacts between citizens on those days had decreased. He stated this at a traditional conference call on preventing the spread of coronavirus disease, the press service of the President's Office reports.
"I believe that Ukraine has taken the right step. The World Health Organization has reported that the largest number of new cases is recorded throughout the weekend. Reducing contact between people is saving lives," Zelensky said.
In addition, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said that the weekend lockdown had reduced movement and contacts between Ukrainians. In particular, the activity of citizens in large cities with a population of over 100 thousand decreased by 18.5% on Saturday and on Sunday - by 27%.
As we reported earlier, according to Zelensky, the state authorities are making every effort for Ukraine to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it appears.
