Ukraine plans to hold the land reform already this year. President Volodymyr Zelensky said so at the business forum in Turkey.
According to the head of the state, the land reform will let the government open the land market in 2020.
"This year, we will definitely hold the land reform, which lets us create the land market with the area of 40 million hectares next year. This land is among the world's best soils in terms of quality", Zelensky said.
He also admitted that a Turkish company already owns some of the Ukrainian lands. The President said he hoped to increase the number of such companies, especially in the southern part of the country.
Previously, leader of Servant of the People party Dmytro Razumkov claimed that the pro-presidential political forces planned to open the land market in Ukraine. However, he did not specify whether the moratorium on the agricultural land sale would be prolonged.
In January 2001, the Ukrainian Parliament passed the law about the moratorium on the land sale. It is supposed to be active until the Land Code is passed; the law forbids to pass or present the land parcels, except for passing them for inheritance purposes or selling them for public and government needs.
