The issue of release of Ukrainian sailors is not a matter of discussion any more, because there is a decision of the international tribunal on this matter. Yulia Mendel, the press secretary of president Volodymyr Zelensky said that, giving an exclusive commentary for a Ukrainian TV channel. The topic of the commentary was how could Russia show it was ready for negotiations with Ukraine.
"Sanctions against Russia always come with other processes. When we talk about negotiations about the release of prisoners, we should mention every case separately. In this case, the issue of release of 24 imprisoned sailors, because there is the decision of the international tribunal", she said.
According to her, Zelensky brings up the topic everywhere, saying they should be released. 'And he admits that we don't have to do anything more here. These are the court decisions, and this must be done', Mendel added.
The press secretary also said that if Russia sets Ukrainian sailors free, it would mean it is ready for negotiation with Ukraine within Minsk talks and Normandy talks formats.
