President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky offers to pass the draft law on extending the campaign on screening the Ukrainian officials. According to the offer, the campaign will now also involve the officials appointed after February 23, 2014 till May 19, 2019. Zelensky put the respective video address on his Facebook page.
"We developed the draft law on extending the norms of the law "On cleaning the authority". I offer to add the following officials to the list of offices falling under the screening: president of Ukraine, all MPs of Ukraine, Head of the Verkhovna Rada, members of the government, Prosecutor General, Head of the State Security Service, Heads of the Anti-Monopoly Committee and the Fund of State Property, Heads of State Fiscal Service and Customs Service, the NSDC Secretary, chiefs of defense companies, which served from February 23, 2014 till May 19, 2019", Zelensky said.
The head of the state pointed out that this draft law is merely the way to evaluate the actions of respective officials. "I'm sure that the actions of all specified officials will get the just legal assistance", Zelensky said.
The president wondered why Ukrainians need MPs who vote for illegal enrichment, keep their immunity and just don't work; why would they need the ministers who tell them they eat too much, who "only construct roads on Facebook and give birth to children in America", who "killed the health of the nation, telling about the harm from cherry bones".
"Why would we need prosecutors who only can hurt their own liver? Why would the economy minister who served during the Yanukovych's regime... call citizens "bastards", ripping their cellphones from their hands and threatens to punch them in the face?", he said.
"I think the least we can do now is to deprive them of the opportunity to lead the state", Zelensky concluded.
Interestingly, Zelensky offered to pass the law almost immediately after the same offer was voiced out by ex-Head of Yanukovych's Administration Andriy Portnov. Portnov, previously wanted in Ukraine and sanctioned by the EU, is known as the lawyer who returned to Ukraine soon after Zelensky's inauguration. His stance towards Euromaidan activists and the supporters of ex-president Petro Poroshenko is extremely aggressive; in his Telegram channel, Portnov offered to consider places for concentration camps for political opponents. Portnov, who currently enjoys the protection of armed men is a close friend of Andriy Bohdan, the Head of the Presidential Office.
The law on screening was passed in September 2014, several months after Viktor Yanukovych's regime was toppled and he himself was ousted.
