President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky named the main priorities that the prosecution bodies are facing. The president told about it at the briefing on the occasion of Day of Prosecutors.
Zelensky congratulated the prosecution staff and noted that over the recent years the word "prosecutor" has been associated among the ordinary people not with the rule of law, but with expensive cars, yachts and valuables.
"The strategic task of the Prosecutor General and his team is to change this once and for all," Zelensky added.
The President also named the main priorities in the work of the prosecutor's office.
"Despite the fact that the prosecutor's office has been deprived of its function of investigation since November 20, you must continue providing procedural guidance in the proceedings of other bodies. First of all, this concerns the crimes committed at the Maidan Nezalezhnosti in 2013-2014. Separately, I will note that on December 3, very important changes to the law on the State Bureau of Investigation will be the first issue on the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada. Nobody will allow the Maidan cases to slide away," the President said.
According to the President, another top priority is corruption. He stressed that every corrupt person should be held responsible, regardless of his first name, position and field of activity.
"Another priority is corruption. Every corrupt person should be held responsible, regardless of first name (we understand who we are talking about), positions and fields of activity. Be assured: I, as president, am your ally in this difficult battle," he said.
As we reported earlier, 114 criminal proceedings related to the crimes committed at Maidan in 2013-14 will be referred to pre-trail investigation bodies. The investigation will continue, press service of the Prosecutor’s General Office informed.
