President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with representatives of Crimean Tatars and told them that a presidential decree on granting the Islamic religious holidays of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr the status of state holidays would be signed in the coming days. This was reported by the press service of the President's Office.
Zelensky also noted that representatives of Crimean Tatars should be represented at the highest diplomatic level, so he approved the candidacy of Emine Japarova for the post of First Deputy Foreign Minister.
In addition, in order to resolve the problematic issues of Crimean Tatars, Volodymyr Zelensky initiated the creation of a working group under the President's Office that will include representatives of Crimean Tatars.
"This task group will make proposals to us, we will share these proposals and move very fast," the president said.
As we reported earlier, today, on May 18, Ukraine marks the Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar People's Genocide.
On this day the Soviet government deported the Tatars from the Crimean peninsula deep into the mainland - to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
