President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met Chairman of Parliamentary Association for Friendship Japan-Ukraine Eisuke Mori and members of the association during the working visit to Japan as the President’s Office reported.
The parties discussed the possibility of deepening economic and investment cooperation and issues of cooperation within the implementation of infrastructure projects in Ukraine as well as the mutually beneficial projects in energy, transport, agriculture and environmental protection spheres.
“The important part of the negotiations was the experience exchange on overcoming the consequences of nuclear emergencies. The President of Ukraine noted the efficiency of the activity of the Ukrainian-Japan Joint committee on cooperation in the improvement of disaster recovery response to emergency situations at the nuclear power plants”, the press service noted.
Zelensky thanked for the consistent policy of the government and parliament of Japan concerning the support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, particularly, within the international organizations and for the large-scale humanitarian and financial aid provided by Japan for holding of the structural reforms.
“We highly appreciate the aid of your country for the restoration of Donbas and support of the internally displaced people from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. I feel the friendship from your side,” Zelensky said.
The Japanese side highly appreciated the results of its visit to Ukraine in September 2019, underlining that it gave new impetus to the development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue and the whole spectrum of the cooperation between the countries.
The program of the visit includes Zelensky's meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, leaders of the bicameral parliament of Japan, members of the Japanese parliamentary association of friendship with Ukraine and other officials. Bilateral meeting with leaders of foreign states is planned as well.
At the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Japan for its support and consideration of the visa-free regime.
Zelensky also stated that Ukraine is interested in continuing the implementation of infrastructure projects with support of Japan.
On October 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and first Lady Olena Zelenska participated in the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito during their working visit to Japan. Besides, Zelensky met Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro.
On October 23, Zelensky and German’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed the situation in Donbas and came to the conclusion that the Normandy format is 'the main way to cease the armed aggression against Ukraine'.
