Ukraine is grateful for the assitance from the German government, but President Volodymyr Zelensky would like more of it. He said so in the interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

"Angela Merkel did a lot for Ukraine. It's true. And I'm very grateful as a Ukrainian. We want more, and I expected more from her, especially in the Normandy format. We're thankful for having what is there already, but I know that Germany is capable of more. Because whatever they do for us, they do for themselves. I have no idea why they don't understand it", Zelensky said.

He also thanked Robert Habek, the leader of German "greens" for his initiative to provide defensive weapons for Ukraine. However, Zelensky claimed he "never asked him to do it".

"He surely understands that Ukraine has no fleet, our coastline lacks protection; he realizes what is lethal weapons and he knows that Germany has not provided us with any weapons, no military aid. And it can! Germany has powerful ships, missile boats and patrol boats... Besides, Germany wields geopolitical weapon, and it's the matter of the EU. If we return to NATO, it is one of the countries that call the shots in this direction. And, thirdly, there's Nord Stream 2, where Germany has the last word, too. Thus, sometimes, one can do much more, and it's in Germany's hands", Zelensky said.
