President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expects positive results from the appointment of Mikheil Saakashvili in a few months. He stated this during his briefing, Ukrinform reports.
"I do not expect results from Saakashvili's work on the second day after his appointment, but within the next few months they should appear. The results concern business deregulation and customs reform," said Zelensky.
During a conversation with Zelensky, Saakashvili spoke about his reforms and said that he was able to overcome corruption and make customs modern.
“We talked a lot about this. He said that he put new people at the customs at the time, then dispersed everyone. After some time, he set others up and had to be dispersed again. Well, such a complicated thing is the reform of the customs. I want him to be engaged in it,” said Zelensky.
He added that Saakashvili has fairly strong investment ties with many countries. Also, the president of Ukraine was interested in the assistance of the ex-president of Georgia in pension reform.
He informed that a case on Saakashvili has been opened in Georgia and he was in a wanted list.
“Of course, we would have a completely different reaction if Saakashvili was just a citizen of Ukraine, and not wanted and convicted in Georgia. We turned to the Ukrainian authorities to extradite Saakashvili. Unfortunately, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities in today's comments missed this circumstance,” said David Zalkaliani.
He added that in international practice, strategic partnership provides for respect for each other's sovereignty.
We recall that on May 7, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Mikheil Saakashvili as head of the Executive Committee for Reforms.
