President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented the possibility to hold the referendum on peace agreements with Russia. The head of the state noted that such referendum has no legitimate consequences; it is the way to figure out the public opinion, as the presidential press service reported.
According to the message, the meeting of Zelensky with public activists, including volunteers and former military took place.
“We have to hear everyone. It is not the legislative referendum but informational one: citizens, what do you think. It is a normal talk with people,” Zelensky said, adding that he strives for the open discussion of the issues, which are important for the state. He does not want to make decisions behind the closed doors as it took place earlier.
The partakers of the meeting offered to maintain such dialogue with the representatives of the society on an ongoing basis.
Earlier, Andry Bohdan, the Head of the Administration of President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the authority considers the option to make the peace agreements with Russia a matter of the national referendum.
'In his speeches, Volodymyr Zelensky himself declared that we consider making some agreements the matter of the referendum. It's not only about the politicians talking, but also about the people. We consider making the issue of reaching the peace agreements with Russia a matter of the all-nation referendum, so that the people of Ukraine would decide that, too - not just the MPs' votes and the President making the decision', Bohdan said.
Besides, Leader of Party Golos Svyatoslav Vakarchuk criticized the intention of administration of President Zelensky to hold the referendums on the peace agreements with the Russian Federation.
