The United States can enter into negotiations of the Normandy format countries to resolve the situation in Donbas on one condition. This was stated by the Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the 1 + 1 TV channel following talks with his American counterpart Joe Biden, which took place on December 9, the presidential press service reported.
"The United States will be interested in a role in the Normandy format, if thiscountry really decides something important, and not just moderate the process or observe from the outside," Zelensky explained.
In addition, negotiations on achieving peace in Ukraine can be conducted within the framework of a single plan, where some of the issues will be resolved in the presence of Ukraine, the United States and Russia, and the other a number of problems - in the format of the Normandy Four.
According to Zelensky, thanks to the United States, an alternative to the Normandy format may appear - a separate platform that can cooperate with the Normandy Four.
Negotiations between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden took place on December 9. They lasted 1.5 hours. President Joseph Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart have called on Russia to defuse the situation on the Ukrainian border.
In addition, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that they see no "contraindications" to the issue of the United States joining the Normandy format.
