President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence that the war in Donbas would end by the end of his term. He stated this in an interview dedicated to the results of his year as President of Ukraine, which was broadcasted on the air of Ukraina TV channel.
"The first step - we have returned the prisoners. We have “unfrozen” the Normandy meeting in a few years - it is the second step, very important, so if there is no platform where you can agree on the end of the war, then you will not end it at all. I am sure that we will end this war by the end of my cadence. I said that I was ready to wait one year, ready to work one year, if the Minsk process does not work, then we will change tactics. We are ready for this - the year has not passed yet. We have really put pressure on everyone - both Russians and Europeans. They used to meet in Minsk once, twice a month or every three months, and now there is a video meeting of a Minsk group every week. That is, we have accelerated this process. After every meeting in Minsk is over, there should be a paper that we agreed on something and that we made a step forward. The Normandy meeting was a difficult summit, but no one surrendered the country. Nothing was signed. It seems to me that we came out with very good results. This dialogue was not interrupted," the president said.
As we reported earlier, on April 16, Ukraine and occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions held an exchange of prisoners.
As a result, 19 Ukrainian citizens returned to their homeland.
