President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin discussed deepening of cooperation between their governments in terms of security and defense - according to the agreements reached during Zelensky's visit in Washington earlier this autumn. "The United States remain the key partner for Ukraine in the security and defense area", Zelensky stressed.
He reiterated that the US government's decision to assign extra security assistance for Ukraine (USD 60 million, - 112 International) was quite operative.
Zelensky and Austin talked through security situations in Donbas and in Ukraine's waters in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian leader marked that his state is trying to activate all negotiation formats to reach the peace in Donbas, and to restore Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The interlocutors also brought up the matters of Ukraine-NATO cooperation and further U.S. support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
During the meeting, the officials also discussed the issue of energy safety in Ukraine and Europe.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense confirmed that his government decisively supports Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity in its internationally recognized borders.
