President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States to meet with his American counterpart, Joe Biden. The head of the Ukrainian state announced this on Instagram.
"We arrived in Washington at the invitation of Joe Biden. A discussion of important issues of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States is ahead. I am sure our meeting will be meaningful," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States has been repeatedly postponed. Initially, the meeting was supposed to take place on August 30, later it became known that it was postponed to September 1.
“The postponement of the meeting of Zelensky and Biden from August 31 to September 1 is confirmed by the President’s Office. It is tied with the U.S. request. On August 31, the ultimatum of Taliban expires – the term for evacuation of foreign citizens from the Kabul Airport – the time provided by the Taliban. The American side has asked to postpone our visit for one more day due to it – and dedicate the whole day to the topic important for the American side,” Spokesperson of the President, Serhiy Nikiforov said.
Later, it was specified that the meeting of the presidents is postponed on August 31. On August 29, the White House stated that the meeting of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden will take place on September 1. The presidents will sign a number of defense partnership agreements.
