Leader of People’s Front Party Arseny Yatsenyuk urged President Volodymyr Zelensky to achieve the session of the UN Security Council and respond of the EU and G7 due to the reluctance of Russia to execute the decision of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on the release of the Ukrainian sailors as the politician reported on Facebook.
“I appeal to President Zelensky, demand the urgent convent of the UN Security Council and respond of the members of G7 and EU,” Yatsenyuk said.
He noted that Russia does not care about the international law and it reminds about it only in its own interpretation.
Yatsenyuk is sure that the decision of the ITLOS on the release of the Ukrainian sailors and vessels needs the world’s response.
“Demand the world to say its word. Because the voices of people, who want to return Russia to the PACE, lift sanctions and be friends with it are not right. It is the echo of the collapse of the world structure,” Yatsenyuk added.
On May 25, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea satisfied the demands of Ukraine on the temporary measures, which should be assumed by Russia. Particularly, the court obliged Russia to immediately release the Ukrainian sailors and allow them to return to Ukraine.
According to the decision of the court, Russia is obliged to execute the decision of the tribuna up to June 25, 2019.
We recall, on November 25, 2018, Russian border guards seized the Ukrainian Yana Kapu raid tug and small armored artillery boats Berdyansk and Nikopol of the Naval Forces of Ukraine in the Kerch Strait area, using weapons.
As a result of the incident, 24 Ukrainian sailors were detained and arrested. They were transported from Crimea to the Moscow Lefortovo detention facility. In addition, three Ukrainian sailors wounded during the shelling by the Russians were transferred to the Prison Hospital.
