The implemented weekend quarantine was not effective and did not live up to expectations of reducing the number of new Covid-19 cases.

This was announced by Head of the State Food and Consumer Service Oleh Ruban, Ukraine 24 TV channel reports.

According to him, the weekend quarantine did not give an effective result in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a total lockdown in Ukraine in the near future.

"This should be the only solution across the entire country. It is necessary to introduce a lockdown across the country in the coming weeks. Weekend quarantine has not shown results in terms of effectiveness," Ruban said.

As we reported earlier, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov stated that the Ukrainians would be informed about the introduction of the complete lockdown in the country in 7-10 days before it happened.

“I believe in a week or 10 days it will be done. At least, we as the Health Ministry will be able to do it. The same situation as with the weekend quarantine, before its introduction, at the meeting of the government on Wednesday in a week before it, we have started to say that we have such an initiative and we want to implement it, why it is so and what we are going to do,” the minister said.
