The signing of the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances became the “fatal mistake” of Ukraine that could “blackmail the whole world” if it had the nuclear capacity as Ukraine 24 TV channel reported citing Head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia.

“Kravchuk, as for me, had a fatal mistake – getting rid of the nuclear weapon after signing of meaningless Memorandum (Budapest Memorandum). In principle, all of us inherit this mistake. We can neglect all mistakes of all other presidents. If we were a nuclear state, we would be treated in another way; others would agree with us in another way. Even making such a decision should take place in another way,” Arakhamia answered the question about the main strategic mistakes of each president of Ukraine.

David Arakhamia noted that he does not know the circumstances of the memorandum’s signing.

“It is easy to discourse for us after so many years…But it seems to men that it was time to show insistence or some other documents. Even if we could not serve it (nuclear capacity), we could reduce it but keep it. We could blackmail the whole world and we would receive money for service as it happens in many other countries,” MP underlined.

Head of the Servant of the People faction noted that neither Russia nor the US fulfills the Budapest Memorandum. It is implemented only by Ukraine.

“We should influence global world processes to return them to Ukraine not only with words but also with acts,” he added.

Earlier, German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen said that it is impossible for Ukraine to receive guarantees under the Budapest Memorandum due to the fact that this document is not an international agreement.
