The White House press officer dodged from a direct answer to the question about the presidential election in Russia.
'We don't get to dictate how other countries operate', Sarah Sanders, the press secretary, said at a briefing as quoted by CBS News. This was her response to the reporter's question about the recent vote, if the presidential administration considered it fair and free.
The official added that it is important for the U.S. to restore the dialogue with Russia, though the current sanctions will remain.
Although the U.S. leader Donald Trump congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on being re-elected as President of the Russian Federation, Sanders said no major international meetings are planned until November.
