Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volker stated that the Russian-created DNR and LNR formations in Donbas should be liquidated because they do not meet the Constitution of Ukraine. Volker said this during a panel discussion at the analytical center of the Hudson Institute, reports LB.ua.
"The so-called Luhansk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic are the entities created by Russia to help disguise Russia's role and strengthen the conflict, and they must be eliminated," Volker said.
The US Special Representative added that for them there is no place in the Ukrainian constitutional system. The Minsk agreements are aimed at restoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and these entities must disappear.
During the discussion, Volker also stated that the preparation of local elections in certain uncontrolled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions may take six months after the full deployment of the peacekeeping force.
He expressed hope that the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas will become a means for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. In particular, according to him, the assistance of the peacekeeping mission in the implementation of the Minsk agreements should create a transitional period of transfer of control in Donbas first from Russia to the UN, and then to Ukraine.
As previously reported, Volker previously said that for the conducting of elections in the Donbass the UN mission should be deployed throughout the region, but the deployment can begin from a line of demarcation.
