Special Representative of the US State Department Kurt Volker and Assistant of Russia's President Vladimir Surkov are preparing to the joint meeting on Donbas conflict settlement. Volker said this during the briefing on the 16th annual Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum yesterday, as Interfax News Agency informed.
"We are trying to appoint the meeting for the last two weeks. I hope, it will happen soon," Kurt Volker stated.
He noted that the U.S. diplomats communicate with France, Germany, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation representatives on the forthcoming negotiations.
The official clarified that Washington can join the Normandy Four Summit if necessary, however, the problem is in the Russian position, which the country's representatives voice at the meetings.
Earlier, Volker supported the initiatives of Zelensky on the reforms tied with the corruption, de-oligarchization, rapprochement with the EU and NATO.
"The U.S. government willingly supports the initiatives, announced by Mr. Zelensky during the election campaign and which are announced now during the formation of the government. It is about the promises to remain faithful to the reforms and fight against corruption and intention to continue the de-oligarchization and announced a way of the rapprochement with the EU and NATO..." he said.
