Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party Viktor Medvedchuk has appealed at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against the illicit actions of the Ukrainian authorities. MP from the Opposition Platform – For Life Renat Kuzmin reported this on Facebook.
The lawmaker noted that Medvedchuk accused the current regime of the political motivation of his criminal prosecution, flagrant violation of the right for a fair trial, as well as violation of the right for freedom and personal inviolability.
“Taking into account the recent statement of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on flagrant violations admitted by the Ukrainian authorities during the closing of the opposition TV channels tied with Medvedchuk, it is not difficult to predict the ECHR decision. As well as it is not difficult to predict the consequences for judges and prosecutors who violated the law in favor of big bosses. The case can be considered in the priority order and it means that we will not wait for the decision long,” Kuzmin underlined.
Earlier, on February 19, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions on eight people (three of them Ukrainians), including Viktor Medvedchuk, Chairman of the Opposition Platform for Life Political Council, and his wife, Oksana Marchenko.
During the last months, world media, European politicians and experts published over 37,000 materials dedicated to the targeting of the opposition by the Ukrainian authorities.
On May 13, Kyiv court chose the restriction measure for Viktor Medvedchuk, the opposition MP and Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life party. The lawmaker will remain under house arrest until July 9, 2021.
