Vice Prime Minister and Minister for the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov considers it expedient to involve the United States, as an OSCE member and guarantor of the Budapest Memorandum, in the Normandy format talks and the Trilateral Contact Group on resolving the situation in Donbas. He stated this on the air of the Ukraina TV channel on Friday evening, April 2, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"The participation of the United States (in the negotiations on Donbas - ed.) is absolutely possible and acceptable at various levels. Since the United States is a member of the OSCE, a donor, because, like other OSCE countries, they pay their contributions there," Reznikov noted.
In his opinion, today the United States, as a member of the Budapest Memorandum, has the moral and legal right to start working both in the Normandy format and at the level of ambassadors and coordinators of the Trilateral Contact Group.
Meanwhile, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky intends to initiate negotiations with the leaders of the Normandy format member states regarding the aggravation of the situation in Donbas, where the number of cases of opening fire has significantly increased since the beginning of the year. This was announced by the press secretary of the President Yulia Mendel.
"Four Ukrainians were killed on Friday. That is why the president initiated an urgent extraordinary meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group's security subgroup. He also intends to discuss the situation and further steps to achieve peace in Donbas with the leaders of the Normandy Four countries," Mendel said.
