The Verkhovna Rada proposes punishment for insulting Ukraine, the Armed Forces and the Ukrainian people. The corresponding bill № 5646 was registered in the parliament by Oleksiy Honcharenko, an MP from the European Solidarity party.
The text of the bill has not yet been available on the parliament's website, but the initiator of the bill said in his Telegram channel what it provides for.
"For insulting Ukraine, the Armed Forces and the Ukrainian people - criminal liability! I submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill amending the Criminal Code of Ukraine to protect the authority of the state, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian nation and people," Honcharenko wrote.
The new article will provide:
- corrective work for up to two years or arrest for up to six months, or imprisonment for up to two years for actions that encroach on the authority of Ukraine, or those aimed at undermining the authority of the Armed Forces;
- arrest for up to six months or imprisonment for up to three years for public humiliating, insulting speeches against the Ukrainian nation or desecration of the historical memory of the Ukrainian people.
"Deliberate undermining of the authority of our state, army and disrespect for our people and historical memory should be punished by law," he added.
The bill has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
