Verkhovna Rada declares boycott of holding of 137 IPU Assembly in Saint Petersburg

The Verkhovna Rada declared a boycott of holding of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Saint Petersburg and appealed with a proper announcement to the parliaments-members of the IPU. The decree #7169 was supported by 249 MPs.

The decree confirms the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada to the parliaments-members of the IPU towards the boycott of the 137th Assembly initiated by the Russian parliamentarians.

‘The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thinks that the decision to hold the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Russian city Saint Petersburg did significant harm to the authority of the IPU. The holding of the Assembly session will take place in the territory of the state which parliament approved the aggression against another member of the IPU, Ukraine for the first time ever’, the statement said.

Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Andry Paruby assigned to send the text of the appeal to the countries-members of the union.
