President Volodymyr Zelensky had a had telephone conversation with Gianni Buquicchio, the head of the Venice Commission. Press office of the President reported that on Tuesday evening.
"The sides focused to the constitutional crisis in Ukraine, which emerged because of the decision of Constitutional Court on October 27. It, in fact, erased the entire system of fighting against corruption, which our state has been buiudling up over the last few years, with the support of the Council of Europe, and the Venice Commission", reads the message.
Gianni Buquicchio offered the expertise of the Venice Commission in this situation and claimed that "one definitely cannot put in danger such important questions as existence of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court, action of the Fund of guarantee of deposits and the land reform".
As we reported earlier, the Council of Europe recommends Ukraine to think about the consequences if the powers of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine are terminated.
The Venice Commission and GRECO stated that the termination of the powers of judges of the Constitutional Court, even for a good reason, would be a violation of the Basic Law and the principle of separation of powers.
It is worth noting that criminal proceedings against the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine have been officially initiated.
