The United States of America wants to see Ukraine a full-fledged member of NATO. This was said in a joint statement of the Ukraine-U.S. Strategic Partnership Commission, published on the Ukrainian Embassy website.
"Ukraine has once again confirmed that NATO membership remains its strategic priority, which was recently enshrined in national legislation. The United States welcomes Ukraine’s aspiration to join NATO and once expect to congratulate Ukraine as a competent member of the Alliance," the report said.
The United States supports the efforts of Ukraineaimed at the implementation of the security reforms indicated in the Law on the National Security of Ukraine, and also notes the continued participation of Ukraine in international peacekeeping and security operations around the world.
As reported, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on September 3, 2018 submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft of amendments to the Constitution on the foreign policy course of Ukraine.
The corresponding bill No. 9037 provides for changes to the preamble of the Constitution. In accordance with it, the Verkhovna Rada confirms the European identity of the Ukrainian people and the irreversibility of the European and Euro-Atlantic course of Ukraine.
In Art. 85 it is proposed to prescribe that the Verkhovna Rada is empowered not only to determine the basis of domestic and foreign policy, but also to implement the strategic course of the state to acquire full membership of Ukraine in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The Cabinet of Ministers, for its part, ensures the implementation of the strategic course of the state to acquire full membership of Ukraine in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The norm that allows foreign military formations to temporarily use the existing military bases on the territory of Ukraine under the lease terms of international agreements is excluded from the transitional provisions.
