The US State Department honoured the memory of the murdered Russian oppositionist Boris Nemtsov and called on the Russian government to punish all organizers and contractors of his murder. This was reported by the press secretary Heather Neuert.
“We again urge the Russian government to ensure that all involved in this crime, including those who organized or ordered it, are brought to justice,” it is added.
Three years ago, opposition leader Boris Nemtsov was assassinated just outside the Kremlin. As a leading figure of Russia’s democratic movement, a former Russian regional governor, and an energy minister as well as a deputy prime minister, Boris Nemtsov committed his life to public service and the goal of a freer and more prosperous Russia.
It is noted that Nemtsov’s memory “continues to inspire the Russian people and many others around the world to engage in the difficult and sometimes dangerous struggle for a just, democratic, and accountable government.”
“As we honour the memory of Boris Nemtsov’s life and work, we renew our call on the Government of Russia to uphold its obligations to promote and protect universal human rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and freedom of association,” the message says.
As it was reported earlier a man, who was carrying a Ukrainian flag, was arrested during the memorial event dedicated to murdered Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov in Saint Petersburg on Monday, February 26. The policemen approached the man, when people were dispersing. They took him into their car without any explanation. According to the news agency, the memorial walk dedicated to Nemtsov was reconciled with municipal authorities.
Boris Nemtsov, Russian opposition politician was murdered on February 28, 2015 in Moscow downtown. Moscow District Military Court declared two people involved in the murder of the politician and sentenced them to 11 – 20 years of imprisonment in high-security prison. As to the prosecution, Ruslan Mukhudinov, former officer of the Sever battalion is believed to be a person who ordered and organized the crime. He is charged in absentia. Mukhudinov is in the international search from November 2015. The investigation of this case is a separate proceeding.
