U.S. urges Iran to unblock Telegram, Instagram

The White House insists on unblocking social media amidst the ongoing mass riots

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump urged the Iranian government to re-grant access to Telegram and Instagram accounts in this country. The respective post appeared on Associated Press’s official Twitter.


The White House has been criticizing Tehran’s efforts aimed at preventing the mass protest actions across the country.

The accounts in the mentioned social networks were shut down on December 31; complete Internet blockade was reported in several cities.

As of day six of the anti-government protests in Iran, there are 21 confirmed fatalities.  

On Tuesday, Nikki Haley, the U.S. permanent representative in the UN said Washington will insist on the UN Security Council and Human Rights Council emergency sessions.
