US Secretary of Defense pledges to build capacity of Ukraine's forces

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in a telephone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Taran pledged to build the capacity of Ukraine's forces to defend more effectively against Russian aggression. This was discussed during telephone call, Austin wrote on his Twitter page.

"Productive call with my Ukrainian counterpart today, Andrii Taran. The U.S. is unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and committed to building the capacity to defend itself against Russian aggression," Pentagon Chief stated.

According to the US Department of Defense, Austin thanked Minister Taran for Ukraine's contribution to international security.

Furthermore, Austin told Taran that Ukraine needs to continue reforming its armed forces while Taran thanked Austin for Washington's help with the reforms.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden is convinced that the US and the EU must continue to defend Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity to counter the threat from Russia. 

"It’s so much easier for the Kremlin to bully and threaten individual states than it is to negotiate with a strong and closely united transatlantic community.That’s why standing up for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine remains a vital concern for Europe and the United States," Biden said.
