The Pentagon and the US State Department agreed to allocate funds to fight against the foreign propaganda supported by the separate states. Totally, it is planned to allocate $40 million as Politico reported.
Despite the fact that Russia was not called directly during the official statement on the beginning of the program, the edition noted that the first of all, the fight will be held against the propaganda and disinformation supported by Kremlin.
The memorandum signed by the department provides the transfer of the allocated funds from the Pentagon to the American Global Engagement Center that was found for the fight against Islamic propaganda in 2016. Later the authorities of the center were extended and the fight against the disinformation was included.
'This financing has the crucial importance for the provision of the further aggressive response to the malicious influence and disinformation and it means that we can use deeper partner relations with our allies, Silicon Valley and other partners in this fights', Steve Goldstein, the Deputy Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy claimed.
The American government specified that at least $5 million will be allocated to the 'Access Fund to Information' for the implementation of the initiative on the counterpropaganda.
