The United States of America supported the proposal of Ukraine regarding the introduction of UN peacekeeping mission to Donbas territory. This was stated during a briefing after a meeting with American leader Donald Trump, by the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
"It is important that the United States fully supported Ukraine's proposals, my proposals, which were voiced as far back as 2015, about the deployment of peacekeepers in the east of Ukraine, in the occupied territory, with the mandate of the UN Security Council. I emphasize the Ukrainian position, which provides for a mandate for the entire occupied territory in the east of Ukraine, including an uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian border, which will exclude the possibility of penetration of Russian troops and will serve for of peace, "Poroshenko said.
"We agreed that our main goal is de-occupation, restoration of sovereignty and bringing peace to Ukraine as soon as possible. This is what I want as a Ukrainian president and this is what the key states of the world support us with." he noted.
Earlier, President Petro Poroshenko thanked Trump for the meeting, noting the importance of US support in the "difficult time for Ukraine."
"We are grateful for the meeting, we expect that we will receive support from the US at such a difficult time for Ukraine, we hope for support regarding the peacekeeping mission and economic reforms," the head of state said.
