U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that the sanctions against a number of Chinese apps would take action in the coming days, CNN reports.

According to the official, Chinese apps like TikTok are an issue for the national security of the USA and the privacy of its citizens.

"Here is what I hope that the American people will come to recognize — these Chinese software companies doing business the United States, whether it is TikTok or WeChat, there are countless more ... are feeding data directly to the Chinese Communist Party, their national security apparatus — could be their facial recognition pattern, it could be information about their residence, their phone numbers, their friends, who they are connected to," Pompeo said.

As we reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he would take action to ban TikTok from the U.S.

"As far as TikTok is concerned, we're banning them from the United States," he stated.

Such a reaction is caused by concerns about the collection and processing of personal data from TikTok users. Chinese laws oblige local companies to cooperate with China's intelligence services.
