According to the National Intelligence’s Spokesperson, the creation of the center is tied with “evolving threats and in support of growing policy and congressional requirements”. The hub is created in accordance with recently adopted laws. It will cover actions of Russia, Iran, North Korea and China on “malign influence activities”.
“Its creation comes after repeated warnings by American officials and congressional lawmakers that foreign efforts to influence the U.S. are likely to continue in coming years,” the message says.
Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines underlined the need to create the center. According to her, the work on the center had begun, calling efforts to stem influence operations an “incredibly important issue”.
After the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, the CIA stated that the Russian hackers committed cyber attacks on servers of the Democratic Party and spread propaganda on social networks to help Donald Trump to win.
