Ukraine's Presidental Administration

US Senator, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee John McCain urged the US President Donald Trump to provide lethal defensive assistance to Ukraine, according to the statement published on the senator’s website.

“Secretary Mattis's visit to Kiev provides yet another opportunity for the United States to correct its policy toward Ukraine and provide the lethal defensive assistance the country needs to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the message reads.

McCain believes this step will allow to raise the price, which the president of Russia is paying for the aggression, and make Russia comply with the Minsk agreements.

“In other words, providing defensive lethal assistance to Ukraine is not opposed to a peaceful resolution of this conflict – it is essential to achieving it. As long as the status quo remains, Russia has no reason to change its behavior, and we should only expect more violence and more death,” the senator said.

As it was reported earlier, president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and US Secretary of Defense James Mattis held a meeting today in Kyiv. James Mattis said he would recommend some very specific things on providing Ukraine with lethal arms, which he is to recommend upon his return.
