U.S. Senate approves Pompeo as Secretary of State

The U.S. Senate officially approved Mike Pompeo for the office of Secretary of the State, after President Donald Trump sacked Rex Tillerson from this position. 

As is known, in 2011, Pompeo became the member of the United States House of Representatives for Kansas's 4th congressional district. In November 2016, he was appointed the CIA director.

During the presidential campaign in Ukraine in 2014, Pompeo called Petro Poroshenko 'the best candidate for this office'. 

According to the U.S. official, Russia carries on with the military aggression and threatens Ukraine, which might lead to further instability in the region. He urged Russian leader Vladimir Putin to 'respect the sovereignty of other nations'.
