U.S. State Department Special Envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker said the United States was ready to join the Normandy format if there is a need for it. This is reported by DW.

Volker commented on the proposal of Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky to include representatives of the United States and United Kingdom in the Normandy format.

"If there is a need for a wider format, of course, we will join it," Volker said.

Earlier, it was reported that representatives of the United States, France and Germany planned to hold consultations on the Normandy format.

It was also reported that the United States supports the efforts of the President of Ukraine to achieve peace in Donbas, and agree to take part in it, but any new format for resolving the conflict in the region needs a consent of all parties.

Earlier, Kurt Volker expressed hope that the exchange of the prisoners between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will happen.

He commented on the situation about the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine during the March of Dignity.

"I really hope that the exchange will happen, but I do not take part in these negotiations. I know that it is very important for the President of Ukraine to bring home everybody, and the sailors, most of all. I hope I will be able to meet and communicate with Mr. Surkov," Volker said.
