US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey Berman is going to leave his post after the confrontation with Attorney General William Barr as Deutsche Welle reported.
Barr announced the resignation of Berman on June 19; however, on June 20, Berman came to his office stating that it is his job.
In his turn, William Barr sent a letter to Berman stating that he was fired by Donald Trump and underlined that he is surprised and disappointed that Berman decided to grandstand instead of public service.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump denied his involvement in the case. "That's all up to the attorney general ... He's working on that, that's his department, not my department”.
However, Berman, well-known for prosecuting terrorism, financial crime and government corruption, also had taken up several high profile cases linked to Trump.
Thus, the confrontation of Berman and Barr is the attempt of the last one to undermine the independence of the Justice Department.
As we reported, former national security adviser John Bolton confirmed the pressure of American President Donald Trump on Ukraine. The leader of the U.S. stopped the military aid to force Ukraine to hold an investigation against his political rivals.
