The US is preparing to launch the Antares middle-class launch vehicle. The first stage of it was produced in Ukraine, From-UA writes.

The upcoming launch should be the 11th in a row. The first took place on April 21, 2013. The rocket successfully put the model of the Sygnus ship into the low orbit, as well as three NASA communications satellites and one commercial remote sensing satellite.

Since the main developer, the American Orbital company, did not have enough experience working with large-capacity liquid steps, this section was entrusted to the Ukrainian Design Bureau Yuzhne, which at one time developed the famous Zenit launch vehicles used in the Marine and Land Launch programs. The tasks of Yuzhne Design Bureau included the development and control of the production of fuel system elements and related equipment. The first stage engine RD-181 was developed and manufactured by the Russian NPO Energomash, but the second stage is completely American and provided by the defense aerospace company Alliant Techsystems, Inc.
