The Pentagon claimed that Poland and the U.S. will cooperate in the sphere of defense for the deterrence of the aggression of Russia as the press service of the U.S. Department of Defense reported.
“Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis met with Polish Defense Minister Marius Blaszczak today at the Pentagon to reaffirm the strong defense relationship between the United States and Poland and continuing commitment to work bilaterally through NATO to deter Russia,” the message said.
Mattis thanked Blaszczak for the offer of Poland to “extend the possibilities” of the U.S. in this country and for the role of Warsaw for the deployment of 4,500 American soldiers in Central Europe.
The United States is considering a request from Poland for a permanent U.S. military presence in the fellow NATO country, acknowledging that he shares Poland’s concerns about possible Russian aggression.
Earlier it was reported that Albania is intended to build the first NATO airbase in the Balkans in Kuçovë city. The investments of NATO for the first stage of the project will amount to 58 million USD, the project to start at the end of 2018.
